美國佛州同志夜店槍擊屠殺案29歲凶嫌奧馬．馬汀（Omar Mateen）的犯案動機仍在調查中，但根據馬汀前妻、父親與前同事的敘述，他個性憤世嫉俗，情緒極不穩定，曾有家暴紀錄，仇視同性戀者，甚至會「把殺人掛在嘴邊」。
馬汀的前妻尤素菲伊12日表示，她於2009年透過網路認識馬汀並與他結婚。起初馬汀看似正常，但婚後不久就變得非常暴力，「顯然有精神問題。我還知道他有（因健身）服用類固醇的習慣」。她說，馬汀會因為衣服沒洗好等細故毆打她、逼她交出薪水、限制她的行動，也不讓她與家人聯絡。
婚後4個月，尤素菲伊的父母終於將她救出，她於2011年與馬汀正式離婚後，雙方就未再聯繫。後來馬汀再娶第2任妻子薩曼，2人育有1名3歲兒子。但槍擊案發生前2人已分居。
馬汀念高中時是美式足球隊員，2006年還取得刑事司法技術副學士學位，沒想到竟然變成冷血殺手。槍手的父親沙迪克表示，幾個月前兒子帶著小孫子在邁阿密市區看見2名同性戀男子當街擁吻，就變得非常憤怒。
沙迪克13日在臉書張貼影片稱，馬汀是個「受過優良教育的好兒子」，且「懲罰同性戀是真主的事，非僕人所當為」。沙迪克在阿富汗裔政治圈小有名氣，偶爾主持電視節目，曾公開支持「基地」恐怖組織與「塔里班」（神學士），還曾稱將參選阿富汗總統。案發後，馬汀任職的跨國大型保全公司「G4S」發布聲明稱，他自2007年起任職於該公司，受雇在佛州南部退休社區擔任保全。該公司曾2度針對員工進行背景調查，都未發現異狀。
但他的前同事吉爾洛伊表示，馬汀「經常把殺人掛在嘴邊」，他總是充滿憤怒，還不時發表種族、性別歧視言論，甚至在１天內狂發20多封簡訊給他，吉爾洛伊曾向公司抱怨幾次。最近1星期，馬丁合法買了至少兩把槍。
